Check off what you need with our Two Oceans pack list

Two Oceans on the horizon and wondering what to pack? We’ve put together a useful list so you can check you have all you require on race day.

For the race:

  • You can’t run without your race numbers, which you’ll receive when you register for the marathon. Attached this to the front of your shirt. If you have an ASA licence, be sure that the number is visible.
  • You also have to wear a RaceTec timing chip on one of your shoes for the duration of the race. You can’t borrow one, as it must be registered in your name. If you don’t have one, you’ll need to buy a new timing chip at registration – so set aside enough time for this.
  • In case of any emergency, you need to carry a charged cell phone with emergency numbers saved and kept for safety in a Ziplock bag.

For fuel:

  • Depending on how long you run for, carry at least 2 litres of water with you.
  • If you’re running for long, we recommend a bladder pack.
  • Pack your food in easily accessible places. This can include any form of easily digestible carbohydrates like raisins or bananas.

For the weather:

  • Stop by a Clicks or Dis-Chem to stock up on sun-lotion with at least SPF 50 and use it liberally. Remember you can get up to 25% off all sun care and other preventive care products with your HealthyCare benefit.
  • Sunglasses are useful to keep the glare out of your eyes. Make sure they fit perfectly so they don’t jiggle as you run, or are too tight and uncomfortable.
  • A cap or hat can help protect your face from the sun and wind, and keep sweat and hair out of your eyes.
  • A windbreaker is compulsory for the race. Get one that is also waterproof – it’s Cape Town, after all! You can even consider bringing a space blanket.

Sound like it’s all adding up? Happily, you can get up to 25% cash back on all HealthyGear sportswear at Sportsmans Warehouse and Totalsports – so make sure you’re well kitted-out before you tackle this epic race!
