How the Discovery app can assist your employees

Your employees can access their health records instantly, and submit claims using their cellphones. They just need to download the Discovery app for free.

Ten tasks the Discovery app makes faster and easier

1. Acts as a virtual membership card: Your employees always have their digital membership card handy with the Discovery app. The digital card is a safe and convenient way for employees to store, access and view their membership details wherever they are. It’s used the same as the plastic card.

2. Submits and tracks health claims: Employees don’t need a scanner to submit claims electronically. They can simply take a photo of their claims using their smartphones’ cameras and upload claims through the app. If the claim has a QR code, they can scan the QR code from within the Discovery app instead. Your employees can also find and view claims we’ve already processed.

3. Tracks benefits and medical spend: Your employees can track how much they’ve claimed for medical expenses and find out what benefits they have available. The plan limits can also be accessed through the app.

4. Accesses health records instantly: With the Discovery app, your employees have their medical history with them at all times. They can view a full medical record of all their doctor andhospital visits, prescribed medicine, blood tests and X-rays, as well as their health measures.

5. Allows members to give consent to doctors: Employees can use the app to give their doctors access to their medical records through HealthID. This allows doctors to study any previous blood test results and even write electronic prescriptions. HealthID can give doctors a better understanding of employees’ medical scheme plans so they can plan around the benefits employees have available and refer them to the best specialist, if needed.

6. Remembers hospital authorisation numbers: If your employees need to go to hospital, they can request authorisation on www.discovery.co.za. Once authorisation is granted, the hospital authorisation number is available on the app. This number is needed when they are admitted to hospital.

7. Finds the closest healthcare provider: Employees can find out where the nearest doctor is and how we cover them, wherever they are. The app allows them to view the healthcare providers close by (GPs, specialists, hospitals and pharmacies). If they choose providers marked with “full cover”, they can avoid co-payments.

8. Requests tax certificates and other legal documents: The app allows employees to request that important documents be emailed to them. These include their medical scheme membership certificates, tax certificates, Chronic Illness Benefit decision letters and policy documents.

9. Accesses travel services and cover outside South Africa: Employees can get travel letters that explains their cover when they apply for visas. Once they are overseas, they can call International SOS directly through the app. The app can translate plan details into French, German, Spanish, Arabic or Chinese.

10. Orders chronic medicine through MedXpress: Chronic medicine can be ordered from MedXpress and employees can choose where they want to have it delivered. This service makes sure they have their chronic medicine when they need it. The medicine can even be ready for collection at any participating pharmacy.
